Fourth of July Weekend Crashes Leave Nine Dead Across Virginia

Fourth of July Weekend 2017 left nine dead all across the state, four of whom were not wearing seat belts.

The number includes two pedestrians (in Norfolk and Fairfax counties), a motorcyclist in Rockingham County, and six people in passenger vehicles (Henrico, Amherst, Dinwiddie, Montgomery, Orange and Surry counties).

In addition, state police arrested 114 drunk drivers between July 1st and July 4th.

Sadly, the number of deaths this year rose from the eight who were killed in traffic incidents last summer during the same period.

Remember—driving during the holidays increases your likelihood of getting into a crash. Drive defensively, buckle up, and be safe on the road.
